Default Coconut Oil Capsules on Cohens

Hi All,

Does anyone know if we can have coconut oil capsules on Cohens EP?

It just occurred to me that this might be the reason my weight-loss is so slow.

I started taking one a day (with my multivitamin and fish oil in the morning) as it says it promotes weight-loss but perhaps it is NOT allowed on Cohens?

I stopped taking it this morning.

I found this response on another weight-loss forum if anyone is interested:

LaDelle, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the calories in coconut oil DO get absorbed by your body, so I think we have found your culprit. The fact is that calories are what provides the energy in food. So if the body is absorbing it as energy, it is absorbing calories. That's the only place energy in food can be coming from. And there is no way that 3T of coconut oil is going to raise your metabolism (that's what "thermogenic effect" means, BTW) the 360 calories a day that is in the oil. And 360 extra calories a day can be enough to keep you from losing weight, or at least seriously slow it down.

My guess is that your weight loss stalled when you started taking the coconut oil, yes? Start counting those calories. And keep in mind that even though it's a healthy fat, it's still a fat and needs to be taken into consideration in your daily macronutrient (carbs, fat, protein) counts.

I was only having one capsule a day but it has 45 cals and is 100% fat so I suspect this might be my culprit.

You think your weight loss is slow because you are not taking some coconut oil pills? Seriously? Don't be fooled. Buy any organic coconut oil of the highest quality and it will be even better. Second of all, whether you use up consumed coconut oil depends on your body's ability to use fat as energy. For that you really need to make your body more efficient with the use of your glycogen (which means consume much less of carbohydrates) and more fat so your body turns on the ketosis process. But also, I would like to ask about your workouts? Do you do any and what kind?

According to my Cohens consultant coconut oil is not on the list though I'm guessing it's a small amount per pill so no harm done. Onwards and downwards xx

Hi AZ,

I think you may have found your culprit too. If you haven't already, out of interest, just take a look at what tiny amounts of ANYTHING can do when on Cohens. The incidents I am recalling in particular are :-

1. Buying grated cheese from a supermarket - a big No-No !! The cheese is coated with some kind of flour that stops each piece sticking to the other - and that flour was upsetting the fine balance of Cohens EP.

2. The CURRY issue - and just having the wrong kind of curry (even in the tiniest of quantities) could stop weightloss dead in its tracks - to read of that, click here:-

In particular, Asy's comment on that very first post reads thus:-

And AZ, it will be VERY interesting to hear what happens now you have stopped taking it. Keep in mind that it may take longer than a week to "get it out of your system", so please don't be discouraged if it doesn't all come right immediately (but I hope it DOES !!!). I am glad you have been "pondering" - keeping a journal is really good with such things.

In fact, it reminds me of another Cohens girl from years back - not sure just who it was, but she had been plateauing and wondering why. Then she posted .....

"I had been having cramps, so I started taking Magnesium tablets - and this morning I was thinking 'Wow, how good are these tablets as I haven't had a cramp since I started taking them' - and THEN she went on.... "and it was right around that time that I started taking the tablets that the plateau started. I am stopping the magnesium tablets right now and I will see what happens."

Now, I really don't recall what happened after that - so I don't want to put a downer on magnesium tablets - but it is one to watch. In fact, ANYTHING new that you take in while on Cohens EP should be journalled, and re-tested and considered after some days to make sure it is not having an adverse effect.

PS Oh yeah, and just ignore that other poster - they are obviously not on Cohens. They want to question your exercise, as if that is all that has you lose weight. They need to be on someotherforum.com

I haven't "done" Cohens - Asy knows me from way back - she invited me to "take a look" here - I did, loved it, and stayed...
And me? I'm a tall skinny-ish bloke (BMI ~25.5) and have been this way forever, so I haven't faced (weight-wise) what you all have !!

Yes, I believe I have found the culprit. The scales have started moving again with a 0.9kg in the last two days so I'm pretty happy! Definitely a lesson learnt!
