Default LJ's Survivor Diary

Well I have done the Blood Tests and sent off my Enrolment Form. I have to do this all by correspondence. Hopefully I will start next week.
Can't wait to meet you all

Gave up smoking over 3 years ago and the weight has slowly crept on and now is the time to tackle that Demon.

Wish me luck!!

Hey LJ

Being in Alice...do we know each other? There seems to be a lot of people jumping on the Cohen's train here at the moment...it's so wonderful...

I am now constantly getting comments and questions about the diet..so much so I have pamphlets I have been giving out to those who ask! There are a number of people at my work doing Cohens and a few of my friends so that has been really supportive. Penny aka Ropemaha even suggested starting up a little Cohens support group here in ALice...

I am finding that the Sunday lunch - Cohen's friendly with others is a great way to socialise and eat at the same time, even going to coffee places as the choice of 'going out for dinner' is limited

Anyway good to see that you found the forum! :P Look forward to hearing more from you soon

Your gonna love it

Hi Hexi

No I don't think I know you..which always amazes me in such a small town. My girlfriend has done Cohen's and after 2 years still looks fantastic. She also knows of many others in town doing this and has motivated me to sign on.

Your lunches sound like a great idea....maybe we can get Oscar's to do a new Sunday menu

Yeh we will boycott Oscars with a Cohen's day for everyone doing it! They may get bombarded with the amount of people in Alice doing Cohens

Is it just me..or are there heaps and heaps of overweight people in this town??? I think so, take a look around the skinny ones are usually tourists. I really noticed this when I came back from Qld recently

Thx Sonia appreciate your reply

And Hexi you are right about the overweight people in town. Just go to the Sunday market and take a seat and watch away. I think it is the lack of entertainment.. people go out to lunch and dinner and of course drink huge amounts of alcohol to compensate!

Although the sport and fitness clubs are never more than 5 minutes away so there really is no excuse and you can't go without knowing someone to talk to.

Day 1 on the island

It started like any other day...drag ass out of bed...drive to work etc etc etc

But wait!

It is day one. This is not the same world as I was in yesterday. This one is going to have many new challenges and all you guys cheering from the side lines.

Unlike some I did not give myself a pizza or ice cream bon voyage yesterday I decided to pretty much to ease myself into today to make life a little easier.

I will now let you in on my life before Cohen's. My Mum and sisters have all struggled with their weight and one of my sisters is very obese. Even though I have never gotten over a size 14 I have had to constantly keep my weight in check. I think the years of doing this have now screwed up my metabolism so bad that I seemed to be starting on a path that I wasn't enjoying. No matter how well I was eating or that I was walking for 50 minutes every day the weight was starting to creep on. I am 41 years young and it definitely gets harder to lose as everyone tells you.

This may also have had alot to do with giving up smoking 3 years ago too. But I thought the weight gain was worth it. (loved smoking, hated giving up, but never going back)

Sorry for the ramble and that is probably the most you will get out of me. Unless I have a few wines under my belt I am not a huge talker in an unfamiliar crowd. Given the wine is not an option for awhile I will pop my head out to say a few words each day.

Glad to be here and thanks for having me!

Hugs to all

LJ

Hey Lj

Welcome to your day 1! The first 3 -4 days aren't much fun but I am sure you will be fine. We have similar weight to loose now and a similar goal...so thats pretty cool!

My mum her twin and my cousins all have weight issues. My mum had the jaw wiring in the 70's, tummy tuck and later in the 90's a gastric bypass, her twin recently had lap banding done so weight in our family is such a big topic! I am sure you will be an inspiration to your sisters and mum as they magically watch the weight fall off you. It is so fantastic to inspire people into believing they too can take back control of their life.

And you are spot on...as we women get older according to the good Dr we become more and more insulin intolerant and our bodies easilt convert food into fat. So good that you are here

Hi Hexi

One of my younger sisters is due to have the lapbanding in a year (has to wait due to health insurance) I hate that thought but I know she wouldn't last a week doing this. She has tried everything but has not an ounce of willpower. Unfortunately she will want to go the easier path. Although I don't believe the lapband is an easier route as in the end you probably get to eat more doing this and will not endure years of loose skin.

Mum started Curves (Adelaide) last year and is doing really well I can't remember a day when I was young when she wasn't on some sort of diet.

LJ

Hey Lj - I too joined up with private health insurance over 2 years ago with the aim of having lap banding done (which is a nightmare in Alice - as you have to go back to Adelaide or Darwin for the op and for the lap fill every couple of months) What a nightmare! I am so happy that I tried Cohens out and am going so well. Lapbanding isn't an easy option considering the way it makes you feel when you eat and weeks of only having fluids, operation etc etc... thats why when I checked out Cohens I thought it was worth giving this a whirl as a last ditch effort to get my weight off. If this didn't work then yeh lapbanding was my next option. THANK GOD I FOUND COHEN"S...I don't have to deal with years of maintaining the lapband, nor feel sick when I eat not only that with a lapband it teaches you nothing about food, you can still eat lollies, choc milkshakes, choc you get the idea - and you would still feel like crap not to mention the issues with skin (like my mum with her rapid weightloss had to have a tummy tuck and boob job after). Anyway you never know as you loose your weight maybe she will become interested and I am sure if you referred her to the forum she would read that many success stories that it may win her over. Cohens is such the answer over surgery - my mum still suffers on a daily basis with eating bread, meat (makes her feel like vomitting) and she had her surgery over 10 years ago
